足底測(cè)痛儀是用以測(cè)量嚙齒類(lèi)動(dòng)物對(duì)紅外熱刺激的反應(yīng)。聚焦紅外光源于動(dòng)物足底，按下開(kāi)關(guān)，等待動(dòng)物縮回受測(cè)爪，儀器自動(dòng)記錄紅外光強(qiáng)度和持續(xù)時(shí)間。實(shí)驗(yàn)數(shù)據(jù)會(huì)顯示在液晶屏上，也可導(dǎo)入U(xiǎn)盤(pán)中，或在通過(guò)USB數(shù)據(jù)線導(dǎo)入至電腦中。

疼痛甩尾和冷熱板實(shí)驗(yàn)雖是急性疼痛熱閾值的經(jīng)典測(cè)量方法，且這兩種實(shí)驗(yàn)至今仍然被藥理學(xué)研究采用，但是其有一些局限性。兩種方法都沒(méi)有在痛覺(jué)過(guò)敏的行為反應(yīng)研究中得到運(yùn)用。

足底測(cè)痛代表了一種先進(jìn)的實(shí)驗(yàn)方法，它集合了所有疼痛過(guò)敏測(cè)試的優(yōu)點(diǎn)。實(shí)驗(yàn)時(shí)，受試動(dòng)物不會(huì)受到束縛；另外，實(shí)驗(yàn)數(shù)據(jù)記錄是儀器自動(dòng)感應(yīng)完成的，不會(huì)因人員因素影響其精準(zhǔn)度。
